For now though, let's get things started with the headlines! The U.S. is set to start automatically registering men for the military draft! Currently, most male citizens and immigrants are required to manually register with the Selective Service System. But as of December, the S.S.S. will "(integrate) with federal data sources", streamlining the process. The move is expected to save tens of millions of dollars annually, while boosting the size of the draft pool. There's hasn't actually BEEN a draft since 1973, but as the war in Iran continues, Donald Trump has declined to rule the possibility out, In other news, the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season is expected to see FEWER storms than usual! That's according to an atmospheric modeling team at Colorado State University. It's estimating thirteen named storms, including six hurricanes and two MAJOR hurricanes of Category Three or higher. That's about three-quarters of the long-term seasonal average. But the team does warn there CAN be curveballs, and changes are possible after the season starts. Hurricane season is officially June first through November thirtieth. And the NFL is under investigation by the Department of Justice, and COULD potentially lose its antitrust exemption! Currently, the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 allows the league's teams to pool their media rights into broadcast packages. But its moves to paywalled streaming sites are costing fans as much as fifteen hundred dollars a year, and THAT's what's gotten government attention! As a spokesperson put it, it's "about affordability for consumers and creating an even playing field for providers". Definitely a "to be continued"!
